About This Trip
This is a classical tour around Kyushu from Tokyo. Kyushu is the third largest island in Japan. It is famous for its fishbone Lamian Noodles, various hot springs, varied mountains and quiet beaches. The tour route brings you to explore the traditional and bustling in Tokyo, Buddhist temple and beaches in Kamakura, volcanoes and hot springs in Kumamoto, hell and sand baths in Beppu, shrines and the sound of oars in Yanagawa…Kyushu is truly a huge treasure that has not been fully excavated! Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Tokyo
Upon arrival airport in Tokyo, you will be picked up and transferred to your hotel. Once arrival and after check-in, you will get free time on your own. Commonly, the check-in time is after 15:00pm in Japan.
In the afternoon, you can pay a visit to Senso-ji Temple and Nakamise Shopping Street.
Senso-ji Templ – It is the 1,400-year-old Temple, the oldest temple in Tokyo Metropolis and also the center of Asakusa District. Surrounded by many small shops featuring Japanese characteristics, this temple is one of the few scenic spots with traditional Japanese style in this modern city of Tokyo.
Nakamise Shopping Street – The Street extends from Raimon to the main site of Senso-ji Temple, approximately 250 meters in length. The top of the block is covered with a transparent ceiling to prevent wind, rain and sunshine. On both sides of the street, there are 89 small shops painted with vermilion facades, selling Edo toys, dance costumes, dessert and local product etc. It is one of the oldest commercial streets in Japan.
Day 2 Tokyo – Kamakura –Tokyo by driving
In the morning, you will have a day trip to Kamakura. It takes approx. 2 hours by driving. Upon arrival, you will pay a visit to Kenchoji Temple, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Kamakura Komachi Dori Shopping Area and Kotokuin Great Buddhaof Kamakura in Kotokuin. In the later afternoon, you will travel to Shichirigahama Beach and Kamakurakoko-Mae Station. After that, you will be driven back Tokyo and free on your own.
Kenchoji Temple – It was built in 1253, and its first abbot was the eminent monk Lanxi Daolong, who came from the Southern Song Dynasty. In 1246, at his age of 33, he came to Japan and initially lectured in temples in Kyoto. Later, he came to Kamakura and was highly valued by the rulers of the Kamakura shogunate, participating in the construction of the Kenchoji Temple. After completion, he was elected as the first abbot. At that time, Japan was prevalent in advocating Buddhism and Chinese culture. During the era when Lanxi Daolong presided over the construction of Changji Temple, the entire temple should have been filled with an atmosphere of learning Chinese.
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine – It was built in 1063 and a symbol of Kamakura. The dance hall is the place for performing dances. The show of “Shizuka Dance” is held every April and worth a visit. In addition, it is known for its natural beauty with appreciating the cherry blossoms and vine flowers in spring, lotus in summer and red leaves in autumn …
Kamakura Komachi Dori Shopping Area – It is the most famous commercial shopping area in Kamakura. There concentrated local specialties and restaurants. It has not only the most delicious Japanese snacks and cuisine but also beautiful accessories and souvenirs. It is a must visit commercial street for young people coming to Kamakura, Japan. At the Area, you can fully experience the most friendly and distinctive services of the Japanese people.
Great Buddha of Kamakura in Kotokuin – Kotokuin is a Buddhist Pure Land temple located on Mount Daiyi in Kamakura, Japan. It is well-known for the Great Buddha of Kamakura and is one of the most famous religious tourist destinations in Kanagawa.
Kamakurakoko-Mae Station – It is a famous stop on the Enoshima tram. And it is also a pilgrimage site for fans of the anime “Slam Dunk”.
Day 3 Tokyo – Kumamoto by flight
In the morning, you will be driven to Tokyo airport to take the domestic flight to Kumamoto in Kyushu. It takes approx. 1 hour on the plane. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to hotel in Kumamoto.
After storing your luggage and taking a rest, you will travel to Kumamoto Castle, Kumamon Square and Kumamoto Prefectural Art Museum. Then, you will be transferred back to your hotel. Free on your own.
Kumamoto Castle – The Castle is also known as Gingko Castle and one of the famous tourist attractions in Japan. Kumamoto Castle is renowned as one of the three famous castles in Japan which are together with Osaka Castle and Nagoya Castle.
Kumamon Square – Kumamoto bear is the official cute creature of Kumamoto prefectural and has been named as the most famous bear in Japan. In 2013, the government of Kumamoto prefectural spent approx. 46 million yen to build Kumamoto Bear square where covers an area of approx. 200 square meters. The square includes communication and information area etc. In addition, there are many shops that sell a large number of Kumamoto bears and products. This is a must visit place for the fans of Kumamon bear.
Kumamoto Prefectural Art Museum – It is located in a corner of Ermaru Park. The museum collects and displays archaeology, painting, printmaking, carving, crafts, ink and other art from ancient to modern times.
Day 4 Kumamoto – Aso – Minamioguni by driving
In the morning, you will be driven to Aso Cuddly Dominition. It takes around 1.5 hours by driving. After visiting, you can take a helicopter here to cruise around the Aso Volcano and view the volcano of Mount Aso. Or you can choose to take the cable car to Volcano viewing platform to view the volcano. After that, you will be transferred to Fumoto Ryokan hotel in Minamioguni. It takes around 30 minutes by driving. To visit Minamioguni, the hotel is nice choice. You will find the Kurokawa Onsen, Spring and Shrine are not far from the hotel.
Aso Cuddly Dominition – It is located at the foot of Mount Aso and an animal entertainment park. There are about 100 species and a total of 500 animals living on a land area of 300000 square meters. There is an interactive area where you can play with cats, dogs, alpacas, and dolphins, as well as the only bear hugging experience in Kyushu!
Mount Aso – It is a famous active volcano in Japan. Located in the northeast of Kumamoto Prefecture, Kyushu Island, it is a symbol of Kumamoto and famous for its complex volcano with a large caldera.
Day 5 Minamioguni – Yufuin – Beppu by driving
After enjoy your breakfast at your hotel, you will be driven approx. 1 hour to reach Yufuin. After visiting, you will travel to Takegawara Spa to have a different experience. Later, you will be driven to Beppu. You will have an overnight at Beppu.
Yufuin – It is a famous hot spring town in Japan. It is located adjacent to Yufuin Mountain and only one mountain away from Beppu City. Hot springs are distributed everywhere. It includes Tangzhiping Street, the banks of Oita River, the surrounding areas of Kinpyeong Lake and the Tobetsu region. If you love Japanese style snacks, you can stroll around Yuping Street happily for a whole day. It is said that this is the birthplace of the inspiration for Japanese animation master, Mr. Hayao Miyazaki, when he drew Totoro. Therefore, there is a Totoro specialty store that has a Totoro bus stop sign, inviting you to enter the store and rediscover your childhood dreams.
Takegawara Spa – It was built in 1879. It is one of the oldest and most famous hot springs in Beppu. The name of Takegawara comes from the roof originally made of bamboo thatch. Its unique wooden roof with gable style was built in 1938. You can choose to experience Takegawara Spa by a hot spring pool or sand bath. For a sand bath, you will wear a Japanese Yukata and will be served to bury your entire body in hot sand by the service staff. Your digestive problems, muscle stiffness, bruising and sprains, neuralgia and chills can be improved through the sand bath. Enjoy it!
Day 6 Beppu – Fukuoka by driving
In the morning, you will pay a visit to Hells of Beppu and be driven to Fukuoka. It takes around 2 hours by driving. Once arrival, you will have a visit to Fukuoka Tower. After that, you will be transferred to your hotel and free on your own.
Hells of Beppu – It is located in the Iron Wheel and Turtle River areas. There are seven ornamental hot springs which are Sea Hell, Ghost Stone Workshop Master Hell, Ghost Mountain Hell, Stove Hell, White Pool Hell, Blood Pool Hell and Dragon Roll Hell. If you are not a lover of hot springs or postmarks, you can just visit 2-3 hot springs. If using the high temperature of hell to steam eggs, it only takes 5 to 6 minutes. A basket of fresh eggs is cooked with a slight sulfur smell. This kind of hot spring egg, also known as Black Jade, is a famous product in Hells of Beppu.
Fukuoka Tower – It is the tallest seaside tower in Japan and a landmark of Fukuoka. It has over 8000 mirror surfaces covering the tower and is designed as a towering triangular prism. Whether day or night, it emits light and has an extraordinary aura. It is the best place in Fukuoka City to appreciate the night view!
Day 7 Fukuoka
Today you will have a day trip around Fukuoka, including Dazaifu Temman-gu, Yanagawa River Descending, Kushida Shrine and Tenjin Underground Mall.
Dazaifu Temman-gu – It now refers to the scenic area centered around the Tenmangu Palace in Dazaifu. During the Warring States period in Japan, the department was responsible for governing the nine provinces and all government affairs, such as defense and diplomacy in Kyushu.
Yanagawa River Descending – It is a city under the jurisdiction of Fukuoka Prefecture and a famous water town in the Fukuoka. You can take a boat along the river for about an hour. Yangawa boating is a more attractive sightseeing way in Yangawa.
Kushida Shrine – It is an important place to worship shrines for citizens. It is held the largest Festival in Kushida Shrine every July that many tourists come here to visit the most exciting scene of the festival – “Chasing Mountain Kasai”. You can admire the colorful mountain hat that is usually only seen during the Festival and is permanently located within the shrine, as well as the ancient ginkgo tree with a history of thousands of years that symbolizes the Kushida Shrine.
Tenjin Underground Mall – It is the commercial center of Fukuoka and the busiest commercial street in Kyushu. The Underground mall is styled by 19th century European urban style. Explore it!
Day 8 Departure from Fukuoka
At appointed time, you will be transferred by your driver to Fukuoka airport to catch up your connected flight. End of your memorable travel in Kyushu of Japan!
