As the capital of Japan, Tokyo has numerous places worth exploring. Besides futuristic skyscrapers and bustling trendy shopping districts, the city still preserves ancient shrines, palaces, and temples well, which are all witnesses to the development and splendor of this ancient city. This journey begins at Meiji Shrine, built to commemorate the first modern emperor of Japan. Stepping into this precinct, you will temporarily escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse yourself in a serene atmosphere created by traditional Japanese buildings and beautiful forests. Then, head to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, a delightful park filled with blooming flowers, ancient walls, and the elegant Suwano tea house, where you can admire the exterior view of the Imperial Palace. Afterward, visit the 1,400-year-old Senso-ji Temple, the oldest temple in Tokyo Metropolis and also the center of Asakusa District. Surrounded by many small shops featuring Japanese characteristics, this temple is one of the few scenic spots with traditional Japanese style in this modern city of Tokyo.

Today, start your tour to explore the highlights out of Tokyo city. After breakfast, embark on a scenic two-hour drive to the picturesque Fuji Five Lakes region. Here, indulge in either a serene cruise across the mirror-like waters of Lake Kawaguchiko or ascend the Kachi Kachi Ropeway, also known as the Mount Fuji Panoramic Ropeway, for breathtaking views and photo opportunities of Mount Fuji—Japan’s iconic snow-capped volcano, its highest peak, and a deeply revered symbol in Japanese culture. With favorable conditions, you might even be blessed with the rare sight of “upside-down Fuji,” where the mountain’s reflection graces the still lake’s surface.

Then a leisurely 1.5-hour road trip will transport you to the serene haven of Hakone, renowned for its pristine natural beauty, rejuvenating onsen (hot springs), and traditional ryokans where you can unwind. Kyoto, a city steeped in over a millennium of imperial glory, served as Japan’s imperial capital long before Tokyo assumed this esteemed role in 1868 A.D. Embark on a captivating journey that begins at the resplendent Kinkaku-ji Temple, where a shimmering golden roof glimmers in the sun, mirroring perfectly in the still waters of the adjacent pond, leaving a profound impression on all who behold it. Next, step deep into Japan’s storied past with a visit to Nijo Castle, a testament to the might and grandeur of the Edo Period’s first shogun. Walk upon its unique “nightingale” floors, where every step echoes with a melodious squeak reminiscent of birdsong, adding an enchanting layer to the castle’s rich history.

Continue your exploration with a pilgrimage to Fushimi-Inari Shrine, where a vermilion tunnel of thousands of torii gates winds its way up Mount Inari, inviting you to immerse yourself in a serene atmosphere of sanctity and tranquility.

As your tour draws to a close, wander through the enchanting streets of Gion, Kyoto’s traditional entertainment district. Here, you may have the chance to encounter the graceful beauty of geishas, adding a touch of mystery and elegance to your journey through Japan’s cultural heartland.

Best Asia Tours did a really good job planning our itinerary in Japan. Some times we had issues coming up I think mostly related to cultural differences, but our agent was amazing and went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we were comfortable and the trip was perfect. The hotels are centrally located, very easy to access to the city center. The guide and driver are friendly and nice. We spend a pleasant and amazing journey there.

The trip was great and our agent performed great. We were pleasantly surprised with how responsive they were and with the trip that they planned. Very professional. A previous agent told us we couldn’t pull off a trip with so many stops but it was not a problem and the pace of the trip was good for us. We don’t like sitting still in one spot for too long. The guides in each city did well and a couple were excellent.
