1. Passport Requirements

2. Visa Requirements
Visitors to Japan must obtain a visa from one of the Japanese diplomatic missions, unless you come from one of the visa-exempt countries.
Visa Exemption: Citizens of 71 countries and regions are eligible for visa exemptions when visiting Japan for a short-term stay (A stay of up to 90 days for tourism, business, visiting friends or relatives, etc. that does not include remunerative activities). These countries include the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and most European countries. The period of stay granted at the time of the landing permission will be “15 days” for Indonesia and Thailand, “14 days” for Brunei, “30 days” for the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, and “90 days” for other countries and regions.
Visa Application: If your country is not eligible for visa exemption or if you intend to stay longer than the exemption period, you will need to apply for a visa before traveling to Japan. Here’s how to proceed:
a. Prepare the required documents: The required documents differ depending on the nationality, travel purpose, etc. of the applicant. For details, refer to the website of the Japanese Embassy or Consulate-General.
– Visa Application Form: Complete and submit the visa application form. This can usually be downloaded from the website of the Japanese embassy or consulate in your country.
– Passport Photos: Provide recent passport-sized photos meeting specific requirements (size, background color, etc.).
– Valid Passport: Submit your valid passport with sufficient blank pages and at least six months of validity.
– Travel Itinerary: Provide a detailed travel itinerary including flight bookings, accommodation details, and planned activities in Japan.

Electronic Visa: Starting from August 1, 2024, individuals from eligible countries/regions planning to visit Japan for tourism can conveniently apply for an electronic visa (eVISA) through the JAPAN eVISA system online.
a. All foreign nationals/people residing in Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan China, the United Kingdom, and the USA, who are not exempt from short-term visas, can apply for an eVISA via the JAPAN eVISA website.
b. Application should be made through an accredited agency in countries/regions below.
(1) China: Nationals of China, who reside in China;
(2) Vietnam: Nationals of Vietnam, who reside in Vietnam and participate in a packaged tour organized by designated travel agencies;
(3) All foreign nationals/people residing in Hong Kong China, India, Indonesia, Macau, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea (except jurisdiction over the Consulate General of Japan in Jeju) and United Arab Emirates, except those who are exempt from short-term visas.
Processing Time: Visa processing times vary by country and time of year. It’s advisable to apply well in advance of your planned travel dates to avoid any delays.

3. Arrival in Japan
Immigration Procedure: Upon arrival in Japan, proceed to the immigration counter with your passport and disembarkation card (usually provided on your flight). The officer may ask about the purpose of your visit and how long you intend to stay.
Extensions: If you wish to extend your stay beyond the visa exemption period or the duration granted by your visa, you must apply for an extension at an immigration office in Japan before your current status expires.
