1.Travel Essentials
Mongolia has significant temperature differences between day and night. It is advisable to bring a warm jacket for cooler evenings.
The air in some parts of Mongolia can be quite dry. During your trip, remember to:
①Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
②Moisturize your skin to prevent dryness.
2.Self-Driving
When renting a car and driving in Mongolia, if you encounter herds of cattle or sheep on the road, wait patiently and give way. Do not honk or attempt to drive through the animals.
Distances between provincial capitals in Mongolia can be quite far. If traveling across provinces, plan your route in advance and ensure your fuel tank is sufficiently filled.
3.Public Etiquette
Smoking is banned throughout Mongolia, and smoking in public places is prohibited by law. Offenders may be fined.
Avoid speaking loudly in public, especially when dining in restaurants — try to keep your voice down. Mongolians enjoy chewing gum after meals, so offering someone a piece of gum afterward can be a great way to break the ice and build rapport.
4.Social Etiquette
Respect the cultural customs of the Mongolian people, and avoid casually discussing ethnic or political topics — especially matters related to their ancestor, Genghis Khan.
When giving or receiving items, use your right hand or both hands as a sign of respect. Do not enter a ger (yurt) or take photos without permission, particularly outside of tourist areas.
