Visit the National Gallery Singapore

The National Gallery Singapore is a premier visual arts institution with the largest public collection of Singapore and Southeast Asian modern art in the world. It houses over 8,000 artworks, showcasing the unique blend of Singapore’s multicultural heritage and focusing on cultural connections within Southeast Asia and Asia through art.

The National Gallery Singapore is a paradise for art lovers. From its rich art exhibitions to delicious restaurants, everything here will make your trip memorable. Come experience a unique journey of art and cuisine!

1. Unique Architectural Style

The National Gallery Singapore, located in the heart of the city, is housed in the former Supreme Court and the former City Hall, two national monuments. Every detail exudes historical charm, making it Singapore’s largest visual arts space.

As you enter the gallery, you’ll be captivated by its majestic architecture and unique design. You can wander freely here while enjoying the art at your own pace, with no external distractions.

2. Must-Visit Spots

Singapore Courtyard: This unique and spacious courtyard is located in the former City Hall. Its open design and excellent natural lighting make every corner perfect for photo shoots.

Linking Bridge: A unique feature of the National Gallery Singapore is its clever integration of two buildings from different eras. The architect designed the Linking Bridge to unite the historic buildings with a modern touch. Visitors can transition from the historically rich structures into the contemporary spaces of the gallery’s central atrium. Don’t miss the Linking Bridge for a perfect blend of history and modernity!

Rotunda Library: Located at the core of the former Supreme Court, the Rotunda Library exemplifies the fusion of neoclassical architecture and modern renovation. Once a library of legal reference books, it now houses reference and archival materials on 19th-century to contemporary art from Singapore and Southeast Asia. The library offers a comfortable environment for reading and research, with a wealth of practical resources.

Supreme Court Terrace: Featuring a unique design, the terrace offers views of the Rotunda Library’s dome, blending ancient and modern architecture seamlessly. It’s an ideal venue for product launches, private receptions, and formal dining.

Padang Terrace: This rooftop outdoor space offers stunning panoramic views of the Singapore skyline. It’s an ideal venue for open-air events and a perfect spot for capturing the city’s nightscape.

Front Supreme Court Hall: The design showcases typical British colonial architecture, with distinctive features from the ceiling to the floor tiles. The use of locally sourced materials highlights the creativity and resourcefulness of the era. The black-and-white checkered floor design adds to its charm. If you enjoy photography or exploring historic buildings, this stunning spot is a must-visit.

3. Must-Visit Restaurants

The Great Mischief: This European-style restaurant perfectly blends traditional and modern design, with its vibrant and artistic décor making it a great spot for photos. It’s recommended that you try the Calamari with Garlic Aioli and Pan Con Tomate. Each dish is colorful and delicious, offering a memorable dining experience. You can enjoy your meal while soaking in the artistic ambiance of the gallery, making your visit both peaceful and delightful.

Courtyard Cafe & Lounge: This café excels in both ambiance and food! The lighting is exceptional, making it easy to capture relaxed, natural, and artistic photos. From simple snacks to authentic Singaporean dishes like curry chicken and laksa, there’s something for everyone. You can enjoy a coffee and a delicious meal while leisurely savoring life.

National Kitchen by Violet Oon: With its dark wooden tables and chairs complemented by rich blue, gold, and emerald green décor, every corner of this restaurant showcases the charm of traditional Peranakan culture. For authentic flavors and classic Peranakan dishes, be sure to try the Nyonya Kueh, Five-Spice Pork, and Hainanese Pork Chop.

This is the second time we plan a trip with Best Asia Tours and we love their service and attention to detail as well as their willingness to make your trip memorable and anything you want possible. Their planning is impecable and very efficient and if anything is not as you expected they will work to make sure it is. we did a 21 day itinerary for 7 including 2 grandmas back on 2018 and we just went back a couple of weeks ago with our daughter for 12 days and had an awesome time. We are already planning the next one. Zoe and Eric who had help us with the travel planning were both amazing their speed to comeback with the itineraries and changes is impressive and not matter how many times you ask them to look at changes or different hotels etc they are always willing to help with the most wonderful attitude . All the guides we had on the different cities and regions have be incredible . I can not recommend them enough. I have traveled al over the world and they are definitively on the top service of the agencies I had used.

Best Asia Tours did a really good job planning our itinerary in Japan. Some times we had issues coming up I think mostly related to cultural differences, but our agent was amazing and went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we were comfortable and the trip was perfect. The hotels are centrally located, very easy to access to the city center. The guide and driver are friendly and nice. We spend a pleasant and amazing journey there.

The trip was great and our agent performed great. We were pleasantly surprised with how responsive they were and with the trip that they planned. Very professional. A previous agent told us we couldn’t pull off a trip with so many stops but it was not a problem and the pace of the trip was good for us. We don’t like sitting still in one spot for too long. The guides in each city did well and a couple were excellent.
