The Singapore River, stretching approximately 4.3 kilometers, flows into Marina Bay and is considered the lifeblood of Singapore. It was the economic artery of early Singapore and the starting point of its prosperity.
Bumboats were popular in Singapore in the 19th and 20th centuries, traveling along the Rochor River, Kallang River, and Singapore River to transport goods and conduct trade.
Later, bumboats fell out of use as trade tools. However, the city-state’s historic riverfront charm is preserved through the Singapore River bumboat cruises, offering visitors a chance to experience a different side of modern Singapore.

1. Timeless Bumboat Cruise
Ride a bumboat along the river and enjoy a classic boat experience on the Singapore River. You’ll pass by iconic areas such as the Boat Quay, Clarke Quay, and Robertson Quay, all the way to Marina Bay.
During the 40-minute cruise, you’ll immerse yourself in the rich history of the Raffles Landing Site, marvel at the futuristic Marina Bay Sands skyscrapers, and explore the river’s role in Singapore’s development. You can also experience the transition from classical to modern as you savor the story of Singapore’s past and its evolution.

2. Bumboat Cruise Information
Tickets can be purchased at the ticketing station at Clarke Quay. There are also ticketing stations at eight stops along the bumboat cruise route: Boat Quay, Read Bridge Jetty, Clarke Quay Jetty, Esplanade Jetty, Promenade Jetty, Bayfront South Jetty, Merlion Park Jetty, and Fullerton Jetty.
The bumboat cruise lasts 40 minutes and has 13 boarding and disembarking points along the route. Passengers can get off at any stop to explore on their own, but once you disembark, the cruise ends, and reboarding is not permitted.

3. Cruise Recommendations
It’s best to board the bumboat in the evening or after sunset to enjoy the sunset over the river or the stunning night views of Singapore’s cityscape.
Although there are several boarding points along the river, we recommend starting your first bumboat cruise from Clarke Quay. This area becomes very lively at night, and its vibrant buildings are perfect for memorable photos.
