In spring, not only is the weather pleasantly mild, but the route also offers stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains, with hillsides blanketed in wildflowers. You’ll encounter awe-inspiring islands framed together, a solitary lighthouse straight out of a comic scene, and century-old villages that retain their authentic charm, where elderly locals weave bamboo baskets under the eaves. The scenery is both natural and simple; even just pausing by the lakeside for a quiet moment, you can feel the relaxing, carefree atmosphere far from the hustle and bustle—perfect for traveling at your own pace and wandering as you please.

Your journey begins as you arrive in Qiandao Lake, either by high-speed train, long-distance bus, or private car from Hangzhou or Shanghai. Upon reaching the town center, you check into your hotel and take a moment to settle in and enjoy the serene lakeside atmosphere. Qiandao Lake Town is a perfect base, with charming lakeside hotels offering scenic views that hint at the natural beauty waiting to be explored.

In the afternoon, head to Tianyu Mountain, a short ride from the town center. Here, you can enjoy a panoramic vista of Qiandao Lake, the sprawling Qiandao Lake Bridge, and countless islands dotted across the water. The highlight is the spectacular sunset, where the golden sunlight reflects off the lake, framing the bridge and islands in a breathtaking scene reminiscent of a painting. If you prefer to avoid strenuous hiking, the mountain’s outdoor scenic escalator makes the ascent effortless, letting you soak in the stunning views without breaking a sweat.

As the evening falls, explore the Beer Town and its nearby lighthouse, a hotspot for photographers and social media enthusiasts. The lone white lighthouse stands gracefully by the water, framed by rolling hills, exuding a sense of solitude and calm that feels like stepping into a graphic novel. Finish your day with a local dinner along Qilong Alley, sampling authentic Zhejiang snacks such as corn cakes and rice soup, immersing yourself in the flavors of the region. Spend the night in Qiandao Lake Town, enjoying the tranquil lake ambiance.

The second day takes you on a full-circle journey around Qiandao Lake, starting with the Chunyang Line, considered one of Zhejiang’s most scenic roads. As you drive south, the landscape alternates between shimmering waters and lush hills, with every turn revealing postcard-perfect vistas. Your first stop is the Shangjiangbu Bridge, a graceful S-shaped suspension bridge with an observation platform that offers expansive views of the surrounding mountains and water.

Continuing along the road, you enter Xiajiang Village, a hidden gem nestled deep in the mountains. A small creek winds through the village, and as you walk along the covered bridges, you encounter traditional Hui-style houses, dating back centuries, set against a backdrop of rolling green mountains. In spring, the village is alive with fresh bamboo shoots and wildflowers, creating a vivid, pastoral scene that feels like stepping back in time. The journey continues through stretches of blooming flower fields in April, particularly around Dashu Town and Anyang Township, where golden rapeseed blossoms fill the landscape.

Lunch is an opportunity to savor local specialties at a rustic farmhouse in Fenkou Town, where dishes such as fish head soup, thick rice soup, fish stew and cured meats reflect the authentic culinary traditions of the region. Fenkou Town sits at the confluence of three counties and is considered a gastronomic highlight of Chun’an, offering a chance to rest and recharge before the afternoon leg.

After lunch, the route shifts north onto the Chunkai Line, where the charm of old-world villages continues. Qinchuan Ancient Village awaits, a 750-year-old settlement with over sixty Ming and Qing-era buildings and thirty uniquely shaped stone bridges. Here, life unfolds at a leisurely pace: ducks swim under bridges, locals wash vegetables in streams, and the simplicity of riverside life offers a soothing, restorative experience. Nearby, the Longchuan Bay presents springtime greenery at its best, where a small tourist train allows you to traverse the bay without missing a single photogenic angle. Another highlight is Wenyuan Lion City, a reconstructed underwater ancient city that provides striking photo opportunities against the tranquil lake backdrop.

By late afternoon, you arrive at Jiangjia Town for the night. Choosing a lakeside guesthouse here allows you to witness the serene bay sunset from your room, offering a quiet retreat after a day filled with exploration.

On the final day, the journey back to Qiandao Lake Town is itself a scenic adventure. Departing Jiangjia Town along the northern route of the Chunkai Line, you first encounter Meifeng Peak Viewing Platform, often said to be the definitive spot to understand Qiandao Lake. From here, a 360° panoramic view reveals the lake’s many islands scattered like stars across the emerald water, a sight that epitomizes the lake’s grandeur.

Further along, Xiaojinshan Viewing Platform offers another exceptional vantage point for capturing the interplay of mountains and water. Nearby Hongye Bay, though named for red leaves, is in spring a quiet green haven where the scenery encourages lingering moments of reflection.

By midday, return to Qiandao Lake Town for a final feast at Yangguang Road Food Street or Fisherman’s Street, where fresh local fish dishes conclude your culinary journey. As you pack up and prepare for your onward journey, the memories of misty hills, serene lakes, centuries-old villages, and the quiet charm of this corner of Zhejiang will linger, leaving you with a lasting impression of nature, history, and authentic rural life.

Their planning is impecable and very efficient and if anything is not as you expected they will work to make sure it is. we did a 21 day itinerary for 7 including 2 grandmas back on 2018 and we just went back a couple of weeks ago with our daughter for 12 days and had an awesome time. Best Asia Tours did a really good job planning our itinerary in Japan. Some times we had issues coming up I think mostly related to cultural differences, but our agent was amazing and went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we were comfortable and the trip was perfect. The hotels are centrally located, very easy to access to the city center. The guide and driver are friendly and nice. We spend a pleasant and amazing journey there.

The trip was great and our agent performed great. We were pleasantly surprised with how responsive they were and with the trip that they planned. Very professional. A previous agent told us we couldn’t pull off a trip with so many stops but it was not a problem and the pace of the trip was good for us. We don’t like sitting still in one spot for too long. The guides in each city did well and a couple were excellent.
