The transportation infrastructure in Nepal is relatively underdeveloped, so special attention is needed when traveling, and it is important to choose the most suitable mode of transportation to reach your destination.
1. Buses
In Nepal, traveling between cities is usually done by bus.
There are two types of buses: one is the tourist bus, which is in better condition, goes directly to the destination, and is more expensive. The other is the local bus, which is commonly used by locals. These buses are in poorer condition, and make frequent stops to pick up and drop off passengers, but the ticket price is very cheap.
Nepal has a relatively dense road network that covers most areas of the country. However, the road conditions in many places are not ideal, especially in the mountainous regions, where there are many curves. For those who tend to get motion sickness, it’s a good idea to bring motion sickness medication in advance.
2. Airplanes
Nepal has several airports, and taking a flight between cities is also a good option. Compared to intercity buses, flying is faster. However, some terminals can be quite crowded, and the waiting time for various procedures at the airport may be long.
3. Public Buses, Taxis, and Rickshaws
In Nepal’s major cities and rural areas, there are options for public buses, taxis, and rickshaws. However, due to the often-crowded roads with a mix of people and vehicles, buses and taxis tend to move slowly. Rickshaws and motorcycles, on the other hand, are more flexible and convenient for getting around.
