The Chataan people build traditional conical tents in the forest, while reindeer quietly graze on moss and drink melted snow outside, embodying a peaceful coexistence between humans and reindeer.

Every March, at the turning point between winter’s end and spring’s arrival, the Chataan Reindeer Tribe holds a unique and meaningful event—the Reindeer Festival.
Herders gather from across the forest, bringing their reindeer to celebrate the festival together.
During the festival, a mysterious and ancient ritual takes place. The eldest member of the tribe blows a long wooden horn, producing a deep, mournful sound that is said to drive away evil spirits in the dark winter days.
In addition to the ritual, the Reindeer Festival features a variety of vibrant activities, including reindeer races and sled-pulling contests that showcase the animals’ speed and strength, as well as dances and musical performances that reflect the rich cultural and environmental heritage of the Chataan Reindeer Tribe.
